Now that the KDE Applications 17.08 software suite got its second point release, it's time for the KDE developers to concentrate their efforts on the next major update, KDE Applications 17.12.

That's right, work on KDE Applications 17.12 will start soon, and the release schedule is already online to give us a heads up when we shall expect the final release to be available, as well as the Beta and RC milestones, and all three maintenance updates.

On November 9, the KDE Applications 17.12 software suite will enter dependency freeze development stage, and the first final freeze is set for November 16, when the Beta release hits the streets for public testing. The Release Candidate milestone will land on November 30.

"From this moment on it is not allowed to add new dependencies or bump dependencies versions. It is possible to get an exception for this," noted the KDE devs on the release schedule page. "We will check if the dependency is needed and is available on all platforms."

KDE Applications 17.12 to arrive on December 14, 2017

Two weeks after the RC milestone is released for public testing, the final release of the KDE Applications 17.12 software suite will make its official appearance, on December 14, 2017. Most GNU/Linux distro should have the new packages ready for installation on their repos.

KDE Applications 17.12 will get its first point release early next year, on January 11, 2018. The second and third maintenance updates, namely KDE Applications 17.12.2 and 17.12.3, are expected to land on February 8 and March 8, respectively.

The KDE Applications 17.12.3 point release will also mark the end of life for the KDE Applications 17.12 software suite, on March 8, 2018. We'll keep you up-to-date with its development as we get closer to the final release. The version after KDE Applications 17.12 should be 18.04, arriving Spring 2018.
