The KDE Project announced today the third and last maintenance update for the KDE Applications 17.08 open-source software stack, versioned 17.08.3.

KDE Applications 17.08.3 is the last stability update for KDE Applications 17.08, bringing a total of 41 bug fixes for various core components and applications, among which we can mention Ark, Gwenview, Kdenlive, KGpg, Kontact, Kleopatra, KMail, KNotes, KWave, Okular, and Spectacle, along with updated translations.

Among the improvements included in this release, we can mention a workaround for a Samba 4.7 regression related to password-protected SMB shares, a fix for an Okular crash that occurred after certain rotation jobs, as well as support for the Ark archive manager to preserve file modification dates when extracting ZIP archives.

In addition, it addresses a startup crash with the Wayland display server for KNotes, improves S/MIME sign and encrypt for Kleopatra, resolves a playback crash with the PulseAudio sound system for KWave, and adds better Wayland compatibility for Kdenlive. The full changelog is attached below for more details.

KDE Applications 17.12 coming December 14, 2017

If you're using KDE Applications 17.08, you are urged to update to the 17.08.3 milestone as soon as the new packages land for your operating system. KDE Applications 17.08.3 ships with the long-term supported KDE Development Platform 4.14.38, too. KDE neon is the first Linux OS to offer the KDE Applications 17.08.3 update.

As KDE Applications 17.08.3 is the last maintenance update in the series, it means KDE Applications 17.08 won't receive support for now on, so we're looking forward to the next major release of the open-source software stack, KDE Applications 17.12, which is expected to land on December 14, 2017.

The upcoming KDE Applications 17.12 release will enter beta testing next week, on November 16, 2017. This series will be supported with a total of three maintenance updates until March 2018. Until then, we recommend updating to KDE Applications 17.08.3 to make sure you're running the latest KDE apps on your OS.
