The KDE Project announced today the release and general availability of the first maintenance update to the stable KDE Applications 17.04 open-source software suite for KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments.

KDE Applications 17.04.1 is here today with updated apps and components, fixing more than 20 bugs that users reported since last month's official release of the new stable series, which already made its way into the software repositories of various GNU/Linux distributions along with the KDE Plasma 5.9.5 desktop.

This point release brings improvements for various popular apps like the Kdenlive video editor, Kate text editor, Dolphin file manager, Gwenview image viewer, and KDEPIM personal information management suite. The full list of changes is available here if you're curious to know what's changed.

"This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to KDEPIM, Dolphin, Gwenview, Kate, Kdenlive, among others," reads today's announcement.

KDE Applications 17.04.2 expected on June 8, 2017

KDE Applications 17.04.1 also includes a new maintenance release of the long-term supported KDE Development Platform, version 4.14.32, and it should soon make its way into the stable repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution. If you're already using KDE Applications 17.04.0, we recommend updating as soon as possible.

The KDE Applications 17.04 software suite has two more such point releases planned, and the next one, KDE Applications 17.04.2, is currently scheduled to hit the streets in about two months from the moment of writing this article, on June 8, 2017, with even more bug fixes and improvements for various KDE apps.

After that, the third and last scheduled maintenance update to the KDE Applications 17.04 software suite, namely KDE Applications 17.04.3, is expected to land on July 13, 2017, marking the end of life for the series. Until then, we expect for the development cycle of the KDE Applications 17.10 branch to kick off.
