The KDE development team was proud to announce the availability of the Release Candidate (RC) build of the upcoming KDE Applications 16.12 software suite for the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

Work on KDE Applications 16.12 started about a month ago, on November 10, when the third and last maintenance update of the current stable KDE Applications 16.08 release was announced, marking the end of life of the series. Until today, KDE Applications 16.12 received a Beta development version, tagged as build 16.11.80, and now we're seeing the Release Candidate, tagged as build 16.11.90.

"The KDE Applications 16.12 releases need a thorough testing in order to maintain and improve the quality and user experience. Actual users are critical to maintaining high KDE quality, because developers simply cannot test every possible configuration. We're counting on you to help find bugs early so they can be squashed before the final release," reads the release announcement.

KDE Applications 16.12 lands December 15, 2016

The wait for KDE Applications 16.12 is almost over, and on December 15, we'll finally be able to get our hands on the most advanced version of the software suite that contains all the KDE apps we need for our KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment. After its December 15 release, KDE Applications 16.12 will be quickly adopted by popular KDE-oriented distros like KDE Neon, OpenSuSE Tumbleweed, and Chakra GNU/Linux.

As expected, KDE Applications 16.12 will get three maintenance updates, and the first one, KDE Applications 16.12.1, is arriving next year, on January 12. Until then, you can help the KDE development team polish the final release of KDE Applications 16.12 by downloading and compiling the sources on your GNU/Linux distribution from the release announcement page. Don't forget to report any bugs you might encounter.
