KDE released today, March 9, 2017, the third and last scheduled maintenance update for the KDE Applications 16.12 software suite designed for users of the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment on various GNU/Linux distributions.

That's right, we're talking about KDE Applications 16.12.3, which comes exactly one month after the release of KDE Applications 16.12.2 to address more than 20 bugs reported by users across various components, including the Kdenlive video editor, Okular document viewer, Kate text editor, Ark archive manager, etc.

"This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone," reads today's announcement. "More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to KDE PIM, Ark, Filelight, Gwenview, Kate, Kdenlive, Okular, among others."

Among other packages that have received improvements in this update, we can mention Akonadi, Cantor, Kalarm, Kalzium, Kcachegrind, KCalc, kdebugsettings, Kholidays, Kig, kio-extras, KMail, Konqueror, Kopete, kpimtextedit, Ktnef, libkcddb, libkdepim, mailcommon, messagelib, pimcommon, print-manager, step, Umbrello. KDE Applications 17.04 launches on April 20

As part of today's last point release to KDE Applications 16.12, the development team also managed to bump the version number of the long-term supported KDE Development Platform (kdelibs) to version 4.14.30, which is integrated into the software suite for KDE Plasma 5 desktop environments.

Being the last in the series, KDE Applications 16.12.3 marks the end of life for KDE Applications 16.12, which means that the development team will now concentrate their efforts on the next major release, namely KDE Applications 17.04, which is expected to launch on April 20, 2017.

Until then, early adopters will be able to get their hands on the Beta and Release Candidate versions of KDE Applications 17.04 series, which should hit the streets on March 23 and April 6, respectively. Those of you who use a current KDE Plasma 5 desktop can now update to KDE Applications 16.12.3 via your distro's repositories.
