Today, February 9, 2017, KDE has had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of the second point release of its KDE Applications 16.12 software suite for KDE Plasma desktops.

That's right, we're talking about KDE Applications 16.12.2, which comes exactly one month after the release of KDE Applications 16.12.1 to address over 20 recorded bugs and implement various improvements across most, if not all the bundled applications, including Kdenlive, Dolphin, KDE PIM, Okular, KTouch, Ark, KMail, Kajongg, and Kate.

"This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone," reads today's announcement. "More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to KDE PIM, Dolphin, Kate, Kdenlive, KTouch, Okular, among others."

Among other updated components, we can mention Konqueror, Akonadi, Akonadi Console, Bovo, Kalarm, kde-dev-scripts, KHolidays, Kig, KIO-Extras, KJumpingCube, KLines, KMines, Konsole, Kopete, Krfb, KsirK, KSquares, Kstars, Umbrello, Marble, Step, and Spectacle. Please check out the full changelog for all the technical details.

Includes KDE Development Platform 4.14.29 LTS

Today's KDE Applications 16.12.2 maintenance update also includes the long-term support (LTS) version of KDE Development Platform 4.14.29, which will come in handy to application developers. It is available now for both KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS and KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environments from the software repos of your favorite distro.

The release cycle of the KDE Applications 16.12 software suite will continue next month with the third and last point release, namely KDE Applications 16.12.3, which will mark the end of life of the series. It's not yet official, but we believe that the next KDE Applications release will be tagged with version 17.04 and will launch in April 2017.
