After announcing the availability of the first maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment, KDE has also released today the third and last point release for the KDE Applications 16.04 software suite.

KDE Applications 16.04.3 is here to fix twenty more bugs reported by users since last month's KDE Applications 16.04.2 point release, bringing improvements to various KDE applications that are usually shipped by default with any new installation of the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

Among the KDE apps that have received fixes in KDE Applications 16.04.3, we can mention the KDE PIM personal information manager, Umbrello IDE (Integrated Development Environment), Kate text editor, Ark archive manager, and Cantor scientific statistics and analysis tool. Also, the update brings KDE Development Platform 4.14.22.

"This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to ark, cantor, kate. kdepim, umbrello, among others. This release also includes Long Term Support version of KDE Development Platform 4.14.22." reads today's announcement.

KDE Applications 16.08 coming August 18

Now that KDE Applications 16.04 has reached end of life, the KDE developers will concentrate their efforts on implementing new features and fixing more bugs for the next major milestone, KDE Applications 16.08, whose development cycle has already started, and the dependency freeze stage will be in effect beginning July 14, 2016.

Then, a Beta should be seeded to public beta testers on July 21, followed two weeks later by the RC (Release Candidate) build, on August 4. The final release of KDE Applications 16.08 will hit the streets on August 18, and as usual, it will have three maintenance updates, with the last one, KDE Applications 16.08.3, arriving on November 10.
