Katy Perry has her mind set on buying an LA convent that she will turn into her home, and she will take the matter to court if the nuns currently living in it don’t sell it to her. The place in question is the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Marry convent in Los Feliz, the LA Times reports.

Two of the five nuns residing there are saying they have the final say in whom they sell it to, and they’re opposed to the plan of LA Archbishop Jose Gomez of completing the transaction with Perry. The reason is simple: they’re not happy with how she portrays herself and the message she’s putting out in the world.

“Oh what a tangled web we weave…”

The report says that the pop star became interested in the property about 3 years ago and immediately approached the Archbishop with an offer. She agreed to fork over $14.5 million ($12.9 million) in cash for the convent, just so she could one day call it her home.

The nuns had already met her, and though she made a general good impression, a further Google search revealed what she did for a living, Sister Rita tells the publication. Sister Rita was not impressed with what she saw there.

A couple of weeks ago, the nuns went behind the Archbishop’s back and sold the convent to a restaurateur for even more money, signing the deal at $15.5 million (€13.8 million). The Archbishop is now taking matters to court, trying to get the act annulled and then move the property in Perry’s name.

The two nuns are saying the Archbishop is trying to cheat them out of their own money by backing Perry as the buyer. Should the deal go through, they fear they will be left unprovided for.

Katy Perry wants a place to “find herself”

All this legal drama aside, the most entertaining part of the report refers to the way in which Katy Perry tried and ultimately failed to impress the nuns into selling the convent to her.

Shortly after the dispute between them and the Archbishop broke, she thought it would help if they got to meet her and see that she had only the best intentions for the place. By that time, Sister Rita had already Googled her and learned that she wasn’t “happy” with what she did for a living.

Katy made an honest effort: she dressed up very conservatively, and tried to charm her way into the nuns’ heart by singing to them “Oh Happy Day.” She also showed them her “Jesus” tattoo on the wrist, and told them she would be moving in with her mother and grandmother, when the convent became a home.

She wanted the place so “she could meditate, drink green tea, and find herself.” The nuns liked her, but not enough to sell her the place.
