Kanye West knows that he was wrong to try and steal Beck’s thunder at the Grammys 2015 by saying he didn’t deserve to win Album of the Year and that, if he had any real respect for artistry, he would have handed the award to Beyonce, who did deserve it.

More importantly, Kanye West is openly admitting to being wrong, which, if you know anything about Kanye, doesn’t happen that often.

Speaking with the Sunday Times, the rapper admitted he was out of line in saying Beck was nothing compared to Beyonce and that he had no respect for “real artists” by accepting an award that wasn’t really his to take.

“I’m fine to apologize for inaccuracies,” he says. “You know, I send flowers for inaccuracies. I talked to Beck’s wife, and I think I had a point about Beyonce’s album, but I think I was inaccurate with the concept of a gentleman who plays 14 instruments not respecting artistry.”

Kanye apologized before to Beck publicly, but he did it on Twitter and was more or less an introduction to asking him to be on his next album. He also hinted before that he was wrong to act this way at the awards gala, but this is the first time he explains why he was so completely out of line.

This incident with Beck was actually the second time Kanye interrupted a major awards show to proclaim Beyonce the rightful winner: the first time was with Taylor Swift at the Video Music Awards, when he went up on stage and snatched her award for Video of the Year to say “Imma let you finish… but Beyonce had the best video of all time.”
