Take, for instance, Justin Bieber’s most recent Instagram shot, which is probably one of the most revealing photos we have ever seen of the former teen heartthrob. He might not say he set out to break the Internet, but he’s slowly getting there.

The photo was snapped on the deck of a yacht Bieber is vacationing on in Bora Bora. He is shown with his back to the camera, pointing with his finger at a nearby island and is captioned “Look.”
He’s not wearing swimming trunks or anything else for that matter, so if he really wanted the world to look at what he was pointing at, it’s obviously not happening: the entire Internet only has eyes for his… full moon, which is on such a grand display.

Some context may be needed to better understand this cheeky photo: Justin Bieber, like most kid stars, had trouble transitioning to adulthood in the public eye. He still has millions of fans, but he also needed credibility in order to branch out more in music.
The past couple of years have been specifically trying for him, because of his behavior: perhaps typical for a wild teenager but made to appear worse because he was such a star.

So Bieber got himself arrested for a DUI and suspicion of drag racing, he relieved himself in mop buckets in restaurants and was careless enough to make a video of it (it ended up online, as expected), and he basically acted like a huge jerk.
This year, he asked Comedy Central to roast him so he could close this chapter of his life and show that he was a grown man, ready to laugh at his past mistakes because he’d learned from them.
He may not say it out loud, but this photo delivers pretty much the same message: he’s a man now, and as one, here he is sunbathing in the nude and posting photos of it on social media.
His fans are thrilled by whatever kind of message he’s trying to send with this pic, because it’s not something he does every day. Proof of that comes from the fact that the photo has over 1.4 million likes as we speak.
