Avalanche has a great relationship with modders

Just Cause 3, the next open world game from Avalanche Studios, promises to embrace modding and provide custom tools for the community to start tinkering with the game. The developer emphasizes that a lot of its current staff started as modders and says it treasures the community that helped boost Just Cause 2's popularity.

The Just Cause series has been around for quite some time, and while the actual games were quite good, they really gained a cult following once all sorts of crazy mods appeared for both of them. The Just Cause 2 Multiplayer mod in particular was a big hit, as it allowed many users from all around the world to engage in an online experience, with the blessing of developer Avalanche Studios.

Just Cause 3 continues to embrace modding

After sharing quite a few Just Cause 3 details last week at E3 2015, developer Avalanche now explains that it's going to continue to embrace the modding scene with the upcoming open world experience.

According to the studio's Game Director Roland Lesterlin, quite a few employees from Avalanche started out as modders many years ago and it would be hypocritical to shut out all the ambitious fans out there with the next title.

As such, while it hasn't nailed down things, Lesterlin promises, via Technobuffalo, that custom mod tools will be available for Just Cause 3 at launch, on December 1, or shortly after that.

"A lot of members of the team started as modders. It would be weird to me to finally be in a position to make huge, awesome games like this and then turn around and stop the next kids who are going to be doing that with this game, who will probably wind up as designers, programmers, producers in games. So while I don’t have any specific information, we’re definitely going to make sure the modding community has the tools they need," he explains.

Just Cause 3 modding will be available on the PC platform, and while Fallout 4 is set to bring its PC mods to PS4 or Xbox One, don't expect such a thing to happen with this title, at least not at first.
