The company promises backers won't end up empty handed

The Finnish company Jolla recently had to lay off almost half of its staff since it wasn't able to secure additional funding for the month of November.

The good news is Jolla managed to solve the immediate financial struggle soon after the layoffs, which put the company back on track with the development of Sailfish OS.

While not all of Jolla's operations are now up and running, the Finnish company has confirmed that this is just a matter of time, not of money.

Unfortunately, Jolla announced that the financial issues from November / December had a bigger impact on the company than it had initially hoped.

Even though the company has revealed that it's now slowly starting to get back to the normal operations and actively plan the best way to finalize the Jolla Tablet project, no solution to the latter has been found yet.

Refunds would be the most logical choice to solve this problem

Jolla has confirmed that a small batch of tablets will be shipped in early 2016 to some early backers and that invitations will be sent during January. But the bad news is these might be the last Jolla tablets the company sends to project supporters.

“The bad news here is that we are not able to complete the production to fulfill all contributions. In other words, all of our backers will not get a Jolla Tablet. However, you can be sure you will not end up empty-handed. We might even have some positive surprises in stock for you,” explains Jolla's Juhani Lassila.

It's unclear how Jolla will solve the situation, but the right way would be just to issue refunds to all those who backed the tablet project and didn't receive their slates.

There's also the possibility of offering smartphones instead of Jolla Tablets, but that solution does seem improbable since the Sailfish OS handset might not work in some countries.
