14 DAY TRIAL // New data provided by market analyst firm Net Applications shows that Windows 10 managed to improve its share in January 2016 by nearly 2 percent, which is the biggest growth the new operating system has managed to achieve since launch.
Specifically, Windows 10 increased from 9.96 percent in December to no less than 11.85 percent in January 2016, thus posting a growth of 1.89 percent.
Looking back at Windows 10’s performance since the debut in July 2015, January 2016 was the best month for the new operating system (a bigger growth was only experienced between July and August, but it was only the first month on the market when the free upgrade campaign was officially started).
In most of the cases, Windows 10 improved its share by approximately 1 percent every month, so it appears that adoption of the product accelerated last month and is well positioned to continue going up in the remainder of the year too.
Windows 7 still the leading choice for PC users
Right now, Net Applications claims that Windows 7 continues to be running on more than half of the world’s PCs, with a market share of 52.47 percent. Windows 10 is second with 11.85 percent, followed by none other than Windows XP with 11.42 percent. Windows 8.1 is fourth with 10.40 percent.
Clearly, Windows 10 adoption is going well, and Microsoft is very optimistic that, with help from enterprises, the new operating system can reach the 1 billion devices goal that it has for 2017.
The free Windows 10 upgrade promo continues for Windows 7 and 8.1 users until July 29, 2016, so users still have half a year to move to the new operating system. But at the same time, enterprises have also started piloting Windows 10 on their computers, and Microsoft expects many of them to upgrade all company PCs by the end of the year.
