All models running iOS 13 said to be affected

Apple released iOS 13 with much fanfare last month, but as it turns out, not everyone is happy with the new software update.

While the included improvements and new features are without a doubt reason enough to update devices to iOS 13, some users discovered the hard way that the new operating system version drains the battery like crazy.

A report from British newspaper Daily Mail highlights some of the complaints users posted online on various forums, revealing that the same problems are even experienced in the recently-released iOS 13.1.2.

In some cases, the battery life has been reduced to just “a few hours,” according to these reports, and the bug appears to hit all iPhone models currently running iOS 13.

However, the report mistakenly claims iPhone 6 is also affected, where, in fact, this model isn’t officially supported by iOS 13, so the software update can’t be installed. On the other hand, the new-generation iPhone might suffer from reduced battery life in iOS 13.1.2, as per the same source.

iPhones also getting hot

Apple has decided to stay completely tight-lipped on such bugs, so it remains to be seen if future updates would also bring improvements in terms of battery life for iOS 13 devices.

Daily Mail also claims that some phones are “heating up while they charge,” but again, it’s not yet known how widespread these problems actually are.

“Apple iOS 13.1.3 update is killing my iPhone 7 plus battery. Getting 70% battery drain in 2 hrs. Phones is laggy and running hot. What's changed since 13.1.2 to cause this,” one user is quoted as saying in the report.

I’ve indeed come across similar reports in the last couple of weeks, but for the time being, this isn’t necessarily something unusual, as the majority of software updates tend to create such problems in the first weeks after launch.

I’ve reached out to Apple asking for more information on iOS 13 issues and will circle back when and if an answer is offered.
