14 DAY TRIAL // A recent study conducted by comScore reveals that iPhone ownership in one of the most important markets in the world, the US, reached an all-time high level, boosted by the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The study, titled "2017 US Cross-Platform Future in Focus," reveals that Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for 15% of all the 85.8 million iPhones owned by Americans aged 13 and older in Q4 2016.
Regarding the owners of other iPhone models, the report reveals that 48.4 million people in the US use iPhone 6 smartphones, compared to 17.8 million people who place calls and socialize with friends on an iPhone 5 or earlier device.
Millions of users might consider upgrading this year
The 70 million people who currently use iPhone 6 or older smartphones created by Apple could be looking to upgrade their devices with either last year’s iPhone 7 or this year’s iterations. Obviously, some of these users will certainly be interested in the anniversary iPhone 8, with a new design and OLED display.
In addition, the iPhone 8 is also rumored to come with fast charging, AR features and 3D sensing cameras, which would certainly make it very appealing to owners of iPhone 6 models who have used their smartphones for over two years. When the iPhone 6 was released, Apple recorded a boom in iPhone's installed base, and iPhone 8 could be a good reason to upgrade. A stainless steel chassis is said to be featured on the iPhone 8, while Apple must still fix the issue with integrating the Touch ID under the display.
The study reveals that iOS adoption among smartphone users of at least 13 years old reached 43% in the United States, during the last three months ending December 2016. Android is placed at 54%, while BlackBerry and Windows 10 Mobile barely make it to the chart.
