Swelling batteries on the iPhone 8 Plus are getting potential buyers concerned that the device could suffer from the same issue and either inflate or even burst into flames, with a report from South Korea indicating that some possible customers are planning to delay the purchase of the device.

The Korea Times writes that even though the iPhone 8 hasn’t yet arrived in the local market, customers are aware of the problems the Plus model experienced overseas and many of them are increasingly wary of the inflating batteries.

While Apple only said it was aware of the issue and was looking into it, the company went on with its global release of the iPhone 8 lineup, without providing any other details as to what might have caused the batteries to inflate and to push the screen out of the frame.

The anxiety that some of the potential iPhone buyers in South Korea are expressing right now is not at all surprising, and it is mostly a result of Apple not being able to provide more information on the models that experienced swollen batteries.

Apple needs to share more information

Local experts call for the company to unveil the exact causes of the issue, the report states, though it’s a well-known fact that Apple typically resolves these cases behind the closed doors without sharing information unless it is really critical to do it.

The newspaper goes on to quote some potential Apple customers who are saying that they are “hesitant to buy the new iPhone” because of the battery issue, but of course, it’s not known how many buyers plan to delay the purchase until Cupertino sets things straight in this saga.

Many are afraid that the same issue could impact the upcoming iPhone X as well, though this is nearly impossible to predict given that only the Plus model seems to be affected for the time being. There’s been no report on inflating batteries on the standard 4.7-inch iPhone 8.
