The benchmarks have completely different results

A real test with all-day applications that pitted the iPhone 8 Plus against iPhone 7 Plus, shows that the new phone from Apple is actually slower than the previous generation.

While tests that compare new devices against the competition are usually fun and interesting, we have to keep in mind that a new device is also fighting against the previous generation from the same makers. The same is true whether your name is Apple, Samsung, or Google.

There comes the point where a user will decide if it’s time to get rid of the old phone and get a new one. So, if you have an iPhone 7 Plus you probably think that it would be good to replace it with the new version, the iPhone 8 Plus. You might want to postpone that decision.

iPhone 7 Plus is faster, but why?

On paper, the iPhone 8 Plus is better in pretty much every way than the previous generation of devices from Apple. On the other hand, in a day-to-day scenario, it turns out that it’s slower and not all that well optimized.

The EverythingApplePro Youtube channel put together a simple test to compare iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone 8 Plus. The idea is to figure out what is the faster device, with a similar set of apps and actions. It turns out that the old iPhone 7 Plus is much faster, and has a much better memory management.

Besides finishing a full minute after the older iPhone, Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus also seems to lack proper memory management, closing apps opened in memory to make room for others. It’s quite possible that the phone will be better with further updates and optimizations. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is also doing better than iPhone 8 Plus, so those optimizations need come really quick if they exist.

It’s also important to remember that Apple fully controls the production of iPhone and the OS, which means that the latest iPhone 8 Plus should not have optimization issues. In any case, you can check out the video below for a complete demonstration.
