The top notch could integrate a facial recognition system

It won't be long until we can see and touch what Apple has in store for us this fall when they'll unveil the new iPhone models, and we've reached a point where graphic designers have their way with iPhone 8 mockups.

The latest iPhone 8 mockups come from designer Maksim Petriv, based, of course, on the bezel-less design discovered two weeks ago in HomePod's firmware. In a series of beautiful images, the designer imagines what he is expecting Apple to do with the iPhone 8, such to replace the physical home button with a virtual one.

Since Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagship smartphones earlier this year, now everyone wants to see the next iPhone having a bezel-less design without any buttons on the screen, and we have to agree that there's nothing wrong with that. We'd love an iPhone with a virtual home button, no doubt about it!

The iPhone 8 with and without a top notch design

If you look at the screenshot gallery below, we'll see that Maksim Petriv imagined iPhone 8's bezel-less design with a top notch that splits the status bar information in two, on the left showing wireless and signal strength, and on the right battery and Bluetooth icons, a standalone top notch, and without.

Unfortunately, the third iPhone 8 design with the top notch that splits the status bar might not be believable because it doesn't look like there's room to display all the things that Apple's iOS mobile operating system shows in the status bar, starting with the mobile carrier info which in some cases can be as long as ten characters.

On the other hand, the first iPhone 8 mockup image that shows a design with a standalone top notch, separated from the device's display, which still shows some status information. But, that's also unlikely, and, in our opinion, the iPhone 8 design in the middle might turn out to be the real thing, something that Apple would implement.

It remains to be seen what Apple's designers have come up with for the next iPhone model that should be unveiled in September, along with the iOS 11 mobile operating systems, but at least we can image what apps might look like on a bezel-less design, thanks to the gorgeous mockups by Maksim Petriv.
