Top Apple analyst reveals new details about 2017 iPhones

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a very good track on predictions and leaks regarding unreleased Apple products, says the 2017 iPhone lineup will indeed include 3 different models, one of which would come with an OLED display.

First and foremost, the OLED iPhone is likely the iPhone 8 that we’ve seen in so many leaks and which is expected to come with a sensor bar at the top of the screen. Ming-Chi Kuo says this particular model will come with what he calls “a full-screen design,” and it will have the highest screen-to-body ratio of any smartphone currently on the market.

What’s more unexpected, however, is that this iPhone model will come with a virtual home button integrated into the screen, but without fingerprint recognition. This means that the fingerprint sensor would not be embedded into the display, so Apple is either planning to move it elsewhere or to give up on its completely.

The iPhone 8 is expected to come with fewer color options as compared to the other two models in the series, and there’s a good chance Apple sticks with black. This will make the top sensor bar less noticeable when the display is turned off thanks to a full black front fascia.

The iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus

As far as the other two models is concerned, the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will stick with the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays, respectively, with a design that’s very similar to the models currently on the market. The smaller iPhone 7s will boast 2GB RAM, while the 7s Plus will get 3GB because of the more processing power required by the dual-camera system.

64GB and 256GB storage options for all new iPhones are very likely, though there’s a chance that Apple could also go for a choice somewhere in between with 128GB.

And last but not least, the new iPhones will be announced in September, but the OLED model is likely to experience a small delay, with sales likely to begin the next month. This is because of the supply tightness, but the analyst expects sales for FY2017 to reach 85 million units.
