14 DAY TRIAL // We’re approximately one month away from the rumored debut of the new iPhone generation, which supposedly includes a completely new iPhone 8 coming with a plethora of upgrades, and leaks keep reaching the web ahead of the public unveiling.
This time, Benjamin Geskin, who has a good track on iPhone leaks, has posted a hands-on video showing an iPhone 8 dummy, which according to his information looks very close to the original model.
The video confirms many of the details that got leaked before, including the glass body, the vertical dual camera, and the narrow bezels of the displays.
The glass body itself hints at several other features being added to the iPhone 8, and one of them is wireless charging, which according to previous leaks could be available on the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus as well. The wireless charging is likely to come together with fast charging, both features being available for a long time on Android devices, including high-end models from Samsung.
No Touch ID, all-in on facial recognition
At the same time, the bezel-less screen also confirms that the Home button would be removed, and there’s a good chance that Touch ID won’t make the cut, meaning that Apple wants to get rid of it completely on the new iPhone. It could survive on the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, but on the iPhone 8, it’s all but confirmed that Touch ID would be removed.
Instead, Apple would go for facial recognition, which will be enabled by cameras integrated into the sensor bar at the top of the screen. These are less visible in this video, but they are there alongside the Facetime camera and the other sensors at the top of the display.
The debut of the iPhone 8 is projected to take place next month, but there are reports that a delay is likely in terms of shipments, with stock issues forcing Apple to begin sales in October or November. No confirmation has been provided until now, so a certain amount of skepticism is definitely recommended.
