14 DAY TRIAL // One of the rumors that made the rounds recently indicated that Apple was planning to release what was called a “Deep Blue” version of the iPhone 7 in addition to Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold models.
But according to famous leaker @OnLeaks, who has an excellent history of providing us with information about unreleased phones, a Deep Blue version of the iPhone is very unlikely, and the chances are that Apple would only bring a new, darker flavor of Space Gray.
While this is sad news for those who wanted to see a Deep Blue model (including us, that is), seeing Apple stick with Space Gray isn’t actually very surprising.
This color debuted in 2013 on the iPhone 5s, and Apple has constantly improved it with every new release. The Apple Watch Sport comes with what’s believed to be the closest version to Dark Gray, so if you do have such a Watch, then the iPhone 7 will look pretty much just like it.
Why Dark Gray makes more sense
And once again, this makes sense because Apple probably wants to bring its devices in sync, and offering the same colors could contribute to a more cohesive ecosystem.
It’s not yet clear if a darker shade of gray would be more appealing than Deep Blue, but we’re pretty sure it won’t, especially because there are many iPhone buyers out there who’d want a small touch of color on the next model. On the other hand, if Apple’s plan for consistency is indeed what the company is aiming for with the colors of its devices, then a Deep Blue version wouldn’t make much sense, given the fact that the Apple Watch isn’t yet available in this flavor.
More information will certainly emerge in the coming weeks, as the iPhone 7 has already started being manufactured, so more people can see it live on the production lines.
