Right after the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have been discovered as waterproof devices, even though Apple has never even hinted at this being possible, rumors say that the future iPhone model will be protected against both water and dust, with a possible IP67 certification if they prove to be true.

A Weibo post mentions that Apple's future iPhone 7 should come with a waterproof and dustproof body, something not very far-fetched considering that the 6s and 6s Plus have also proven to be waterproof in a 48-hour test.

If the rumor first shared by Macotakara is true, Apple might also receive an IP67 certification for the new iPhone, which means that the device should be totally protected against dust and against water immersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter (between 5.9 inches and 39 inches in Imperial units).

IP certifications are designed to designate the exact environmental protection level of certified enclosures around electronic equipment. The IP numbers comprise two numbers, with the first describing the protection against solid objects of various sizes and the second referring to the level of protection against liquids.

The iPhone 7 might also be made using a new alloy or material

Moreover, according to another Weibo post, Apple will use a completely new material for iPhone 7's body, with the latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus being the last ones that feature a metallic enclosure.

Other rumors also mention that the new iPhone model to be released next year should also come with a completely flat LCD panel, which doesn't say much in the absence of further details.

Even though these are just rumors and they should be taken with a grain of salt to say the least, Apple is expected to deliver an iPhone with at least some changes in design given its track record of releasing devices with improved looks in even-numbered years and "s" models with improved performance on odd ones.
