Put this in the “very unlikely” category, though

Previous leaks have shown that the iPhone 7 is likely to bring only small visual changes as compared to the 6s, but new schematics that have reached the web today seem to point to more breaking upgrades.

These photos, which claim to reveal the design and dimensions of both the 4.7-inch iPhone and the Plus version, confirm that Apple is planning to launch two models, and not three as some sources have said - an iPhone Pro was rumored to join the lineup in September with several exclusive features, but it appears that this isn’t the case.

The 4.7-inch schematic doesn’t bring too many new things to the table and confirms what we already knew. There will be a design similar to the one of the 6s, a larger camera moved closer to the corner of the phone, and an audio jack replaced with an all-purpose Lightning connector. The new iPhone will be just 7.2 mm thin, so Apple will add 0.1 mm over the iPhone 6s, but it goes without saying that this is a difference that anyone can easily ignore.

Huge changes on the Plus model

The Plus model, on the other hand, could come with more exciting upgrades. Previous reports indicated that the Plus could be the only model boasting a dual camera, but these schematics seem to point out that there’s more to come for those who buy the larger iPhone.

Apple could thus go for a bezel-less design for the Plus with a screen that covers the entire front surface of the device. This change was previously believed to take place in 2017, when Apple is planning to switch from LCD to OLED and thus remove the bezels on the device. This 2017 iPhone could thus incorporate all front-facing parts into the display, including the FaceTime camera and the Touch ID button.

Today’s leak, on the other hand, suggests similar changes coming in September this year, as the FaceTime camera is nowhere to be seen - most likely, this is a sign that Apple might actually incorporate it into the display. While this would be exciting news for iPhone users, there are big chances such information is not accurate.

Additionally, these schematics also include a Smart Connector for the Plus model. Until now, there have been plenty of contradictory reports on this feature, and while some said that Apple would indeed offer it on the iPhone 7, others claim it’s impossible to see it installed on the next-generation iPhone. The aforementioned source says that Smart Connector could be used for wireless charging, a feature that has indeed been rumored to land on the next iPhone.

It goes without saying that everything here is still in the rumor stage, but we’re pretty sure that everyone would love these schematics to be real. A bigger overhaul of the iPhone would certainly breathe life into a device that’s losing its cool factor. Find out more about the iPhone 7 here.
