Production of the 4.7-inch version of the upcoming iPhone 7 is believed to have started at a Pegatron facility, as Apple is taking one big step towards the release of the next-generation iPhone.

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, you probably recall that a similar report on the start of the iPhone production reached the web nearly one month ago, but it appears that it was actually referring to some prototypes, and not to the actual mass production of the new model.

According to famous leaker @OnLeaks, who keeps excellent track of phone leaks, mass production has now started “slowly” at a Pegatron factory that’s in charge of building the 4.7-inch model, and not the 5.5-inch iPhone Plus.

New features on the 4.7-inch iPhone

Most recent reports pointing to features coming on the iPhone 7 revealed upgrades that Apple was planning for the 5.5-inch model, but this doesn’t mean that the 4.7-inch standard iPhone will be left behind.

The device will come with a larger and upgraded camera, so no, it won’t be getting the dual-camera system that’s rumored for the iPhone 7 Plus, but it’ll still come with better capabilities in this regard. It will feature the same design improvements as the bigger brother, so it’ll feature a cleaner back with antenna lines moved to the top and the bottom edges, while the camera and the flash will be moved closer to the side.

Dimensions will be very similar to the existing iPhone 6s, and rumor has it that Apple will remove the audio jack to replace it with an all-purpose Lightning connector. This should help make the iPhone a bit thinner, but it’s not yet clear if Apple still goes forward with this plan or not.

The debut of the new iPhone generation is expected to take place in September and will come with iOS 10, Apple’s new operating system that’s already available as a developer preview.
