14 DAY TRIAL // Apple is expected to launch the new iPhone 7 in September this year and it appears that the device has just reached an important milestone in its development process.
If a report published by MobiPicker is accurate, then Apple has just started production of the iPhone 7 at Pegatron and Foxconn facilities, ahead of the unveiling schedule to take place later this year.
And while this is clearly big news for the Apple community, there’s something even more exciting coming from the same source (once again, keep in mind that there’s no proof this report is 100 percent accurate, so take everything with a healthy pinch of salt).
Three different iPhone models
It appears that Apple is preparing 3 different models for the iPhone 7 lineup, as it follows: the standard 4.7-inch model, the Plus version, and what will be called either iPhone 7 Pro or iPhone 7 Plus Premium.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about a Pro version, but it’s certainly a surprise to hear that Apple is pondering the iPhone 7 Plus Premium designation. But at the same time, it can also serve as confirmation that the company is considering a model whose specs outclass those on the iPhone Plus, although at this point it’s not very clear what this means.
Previous reports regarding the Pro model indicated that Apple was planning a 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch device that would feature some exclusive capabilities, including a Smart Connector borrowed from the iPad Pro and a dual camera. Nothing has been confirmed so far, but earlier today, an analyst familiar with Apple’s plans revealed that the Plus or the Pro models could be the only ones to get an OLED display when the company makes the switch off LCD sometime in 2017 or 2018.
Apple might be preparing some unexpected surprises for iPhone fans, but it’s not yet clear if the Pro model is ready to debut in September alongside the standard and the Plus. It’s more likely to see the Pro going live in 2017 when a bigger overhaul of the iPhone is planned, but with so many scarce details, our only option is to wait and see what happens.
