14 DAY TRIAL // Rumors on the upcoming iPhone 7 series continue to pile up, as recently Stuff.tv and Steve Hemmerstoffer from @OnLeaks created a 3D animation featuring actual CAD files that were used from a March testing unit. The video shows a dual camera cutout and a smart connector.
The video suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus won’t be coming with a headphone jack after all, as there’s no 3.5mm cutout. This means that users would have to switch their headphones for a pair with Lightning connector instead, since it’s unlikely that the box will include a pair.
The 3D animation also shows there will be only one speaker on the iPhone 7 Plus, located to the right of the Lightning port. The back of the phone looks neater, with the antenna bands moved to the bottom and sides instead.
Another 3D render was released a week ago, but that one clearly shows space for the dual-lens camera, which is only visible on the design of the iPhone 7 Plus/Pro, but not that of the iPhone 7. It’s still unclear whether Apple will implement the dual-lens camera for wide angle photography, like on the LG G5. The camera could be there to improve image quality and thus compete against the Huawei P9 or for optical zoom technology that would make this model a clear improvement over the iPhone 7.
iPhone 7 Plus might come with Smart Connector
One of the differences from the iPhone 6s is the Apple’s Smart Connector, portrayed in the schematics as the three holes near the bottom of the prototype. The Smart Connector was first incorporated in the iPad Pro, and it works with third-party keyboards on the iPad. This would also mean that the new iPhone series will require brand new accessories, like battery packs, camera grips, external speakers, and high-quality Digital-to-Analogue converters.
The new iPhone 7 Plus is expected to measure 158.22x77.94x7.3mm, the same as the current iPhone 6S Plus. Considering that the new iPhone models won’t be bringing any major changes to the series, Apple is expected to completely redesign the device next year, on iPhone’s 10th anniversary.
