The problem also appears to affect older iPhone models

Apple rolled out the iOS 11.0.1 update a few days ago in an attempt to fix some of the issues it discovered in the original iOS 11 version, but it turns out that at least one bug has remained unresolved.

The battery life on a number of devices, including iPhone 7 and the recently released iPhone 8, continues to be the terrible and substantially below expectations, in most of the cases dramatically below what these devices experienced in iOS 10.

Users are complaining all over the web, including on Apple’s support forums and on reddit, that the iOS 11.0.1 update has brought nothing new in terms of battery life, with some devices getting only half of day battery life per charge.

iPhone 6, 7, and 8 suffering from same bug

One of the iPhone 7 units here at Softpedia is suffering from the exact problem after being updated to iOS 11.0.1 with no workaround available for the time being. We can confirm that a full reset doesn’t make any difference, and this could be an indication that it’s not an app compatibility issue, but a bug affecting the operating system.

The device loses approximately 70 percent of the battery life in about 6 hours with minimal usage, but with a dramatic battery drain in standby.

The device that’s experiencing the poor battery life has been part of the beta program before the release of iOS 11, but is currently on the stable version and hitting the same bugs after the clean install. Users on reddit point out that older models that haven’t been enrolled in the beta program, including the iPhone 6 and the 6s, are also getting terrible battery life on iOS 11.

While there are also a few users who claim battery life has so far been good in iOS 11, the number of complaints has increased substantially in the last few days, most likely as more devices have received the update to the latest version.

Right now, the only workaround appears to be downgrading back to iOS 10.3.3, but this is just a temporary solution, especially because Apple is expected to stop signing this OS version in the coming weeks. Apple has obviously remained tight-lipped on the bug, leaving users with no other option than to wait until the next update is released.
