Early buyers reporting issues with the iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 launched nearly a week ago and the first buyers are already discovering issues that are affecting various features of the device, including phone call audio quality.

Recent reports claim that both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus are experiencing a weird bug that impacts the quality of phone call audio, and many buyers are complaining about it on Apple’s support forums.

While it’s not yet clear if it’s a software or hardware problem, the majority of users experiencing the bug describe the phone call audio quality as a “sound that’s coming from behind the device.” Others claim that “everything sounds distant.”

No workaround just yet

For the moment, there’s no workaround available and Apple is yet to acknowledge the bug, so it’s still not clear if it’s a widespread issue or not. Furthermore, since nobody can tell for sure what exactly is happening with these iPhones, it’s pretty much impossible to tell if the problem is caused by software or hardware.

Some of the users who posted on Apple’s forums claim that lowering the volume helps address the audio quality, but it still doesn’t sound like it was expected to. Apple has always praised the sound capabilities of its iPhones, so it’s very clear that the iPhone 7 isn’t supposed by any means to provide a quality that’s clearly worse than on the iPhone 6s.

“We just got 2 new iPhone 7 Plus and I am noticing that the incoming call audio quality on both sounds strange.  I have the Apple leather case on the phone and incoming audio sounds distant. Like it is coming from behind the phone or something. It almost sounds like the phone is on speaker phone but it isn't.  Turning the volume down helps a bit but it seems off.  Previous I had an iPhone 6 so I don't know how this compares to the 6 Plus,” one user explains.

It remains to be seen how many users are experiencing this problem, and more importantly, why it is actually happening, so hopefully, Apple will come up with a statement in the coming days to set things clear.
