14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung is the number one manufacturer of exploding phones, but it appears that Apple’s aiming to get the crown in this sector too, as there are reports that several iPhones caught fire in the last couple of weeks across the world.
But while the majority of reports involved older iPhone models, such as the 6 Plus, there’s now a new claim that an iPhone 7 exploded in the face of the owner, causing injuries to his face.
GizmoChina is reporting, citing Chinese media, that an iPhone 7 literally exploded when its owner was recording a video. Given the way the man was holding the iPhone to shoot the video, the flying glass from the screen’s display hurt his face, causing the injuries that you can see in the photo below.
Exploding like a grenade? Not very likely
For the moment, there’s no confirmation that this report is true, but it appears that the owner already got in touch with the local Apple sales team, who offered to forward the information regarding the explosion to the Cupertino headquarters and have the device investigated. No other details are being provided, but it appears that Apple is already looking into this report.
What also raises doubts regarding this report is that phones that previously exploded, including here the iPhone and the Note 7, didn’t actually explode like a grenade, causing debris to fly all over the place, but only caught fire and emitted smoke. This means that seeing pieces of glass causing injuries to the man’s face is very unlikely, but it remains to be seen if this report is indeed accurate or not.
For the moment, however, it’s better to take this with a pinch of salt, but if it’s true, Apple really has a huge problem here. If an iPhone 7 explodes like a grenade, things could get even worse than in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 drama, so the company would better come up with an official statement despite the CIA-like secrecy that it loves so much.
