14 DAY TRIAL // Apple will offer microSD card support on the iPhone when hell freezes over, but in the meantime, it appears that Cupertino has different plans for the next-generation model.
A new forecast coming from analyst house TrendForce confirms recent reports that Apple is planning to offer a 256GB version of the iPhone 7, adding a few more details to the table.
“Display not included in upgrades”
We already knew that Apple was planning to make the iPhone 7 very similar to the current models, and TrendForce confirms that this is indeed the case, adding that dimensions and design will be almost untouched.
Furthermore, it adds that the display won’t be part of the upgrade lineup, so the one that’s currently available on the iPhone 6s will be offered on the next model, probably with small tweaks.
“The display of iPhone 7, however, will not feature a significant breakthrough. This also signify that LTPS LCD has reached its peak in development and is unlikely to make another big technological leap in the future,” the analysts estimate.
3GB of RAM and 256GB of storage
The Plus model will come with 3GB of RAM, and this is very likely to be one of the features exclusively available on the 5.5-inch version. Previous reports indicated that the iPhone 7 Plus would benefit from several exclusive upgrades, including more RAM and dual camera, a feature that TrendForce says is very likely to be indeed available on the bigger iPhone.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 7, on the other hand, will come with 2GB of RAM and will feature only a small camera update. The bigger amount of RAM on the Plus version is necessary to process photos shot with the dual camera, the analyst firm explains.
And finally, as far as storage is concerned, Apple is expected to give up on the 64GB storage version, but instead, the company will offer a 256GB option across the entire range. It was previously believed that 256GB of storage would only be provided on the Plus, but according to this new forecast, all iPhones could get it. The new lineup will include models with 128GB and 256GB of storage while the fate of the 16GB version is still uncertain, with the base iPhone also likely to offer 32GB.
The iPhone 7 is due in September, and expect more information to surface this month, when Apple kicks off the WWDC conference and preview some of its next products.
