Apple has already launched an investigation, it seems

A video that was posted a few hours ago on Twitter by @nashwest2 is making the rounds right now, as it shows an iPhone 6s Plus that caught fire in what seems to be a classroom.

Very little is known about what exactly happened, but the poster wrote that the iPhone 6s Plus caught fire “after breaking.” The video shows the outcome of the fire, with the device completely wrecked and broken into two separate pieces, as the screen came off following what could have been an internal explosion.

The battery indeed looks like it suffered a fire in the upper part and the display is destroyed, but the exact causes of the incident are still unknown.

The tweet has already caught the attention of Apple itself, which asked for more information, as the company started an investigation to learn what exactly happened.

On the good side, it doesn’t seem like anyone has suffered any injuries from this and no damages were caused by the fire.

Other iPhones that caught fire

Although Samsung was the company that had to recall its devices because of batteries that caught fire, Apple has its own share of devices bursting into flames.

Last month, it was reported that an iPhone 6 Plus nearly caught fire in a girl’s pocket for no clear reason, as it started emitting smoke due to excessive overheating.

In October, another iPhone 6s Plus burst into flames during class while it was in the back pocket of one of the students. The owner explained that he felt a “hot burning in my leg” and then he noticed smoke coming out of his pocket. “It was a fire,” he said.

Apple is (or was) investigating all these reports, but as it happens with all things Apple, there are no other details, as the company is doing a terrific job of keeping details away from the media. It remains to be seen if any other information regarding this last incident will surface in the coming days and weeks.
