Even though not advertised as waterproof, both phones worked perfectly after being submerged for an entire day

Before their release, the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus haven't been advertised by Apple as being waterproof or water-resistant, but according to a test performed by Zach Straley, they haven't taken any damage after a full hour of submersion.

Moreover, Straley went further and prolonged the test to see what would happen if the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus would be kept under water for as much as 48-hours.

Apparently, even after staying under water for two full days, the phones worked perfectly, with the 6s being the only one having a small problem: a barely perceptible diagonal across the top of its screen.

This proves that even if Apple hadn't intended to, the new iPhones are indeed waterproof devices, as long as the water is shallow enough so that the pressure doesn't affect the devices' waterproofing.

Even after 48-hours of being underwater, the new iPhones still worked perfectly

After the end of the 24-hour immersion marathon, Straley also examined the TouchID, speakers, 3.5 mm headphone ports and the Lightning ports on both devices, and they worked perfectly.

We don't know why Apple has not advertised their new iPhone models as being waterproof, but the iOS 7 waterproof hoax of 2013 might have made them think twice before making statements that would put the devices at risk due to the amount of diving they'd have to do once they'd reach their owners "testing benches."

Another possible explanation would be that Apple has not thought about making them waterproof, and this newly discovered capability of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is just a happy coincidence.

In any event, if you're the owner of an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, you should know that you won't have to guard your new smartphone against accidental spillage, but instead use it to test your new device's snorkeling abilities
