Yet another iPhone catching fire all of a sudden

We’ve heard of iPhones (and even other phones) catching fire before, but this time, a man in Atlanta had to take his pants off in public to avoid any damages that the device could have caused.

The man, who asked to remain anonymous because this isn’t really something to be proud of, stripped in a Douglas County store parking lot when he noticed that his iPhone 6 Plus, which he was carrying in the pocket of his jeans, caught fire.

Speaking with WSBTV, the unlucky iPhone owner said the first thing he actually felt was a strong burning sensation in his front pocket, followed by smoke coming from his pants.

“When I saw the smoke, I undid my belt, I undid my pants. I pushed it away, turned my head hoping it wouldn’t explode. It burned pretty much my whole front pocket, burned my boxers, started to burn my leg, but I had moved it away in time so it wouldn’t burn me,” the man who wanted to be called Rocky was quoted as saying.

No injuries

Fortunately, he suffered absolutely no injuries, and surprisingly, he’s not asking for any damages from Apple, which is pretty odd, given the fact that most people whose phones explode in their pockets are actually looking for compensation from the company that manufactured their devices.

And yet, Apple is not entirely to blame for what happened. It appears that the man’s iPhone was, in fact, a refurbished unit, which he purchased in October 2015, so probably the quality check before reselling the device is the one at fault for this.

The company that sold the iPhone has already sent the man a replacement phone, and now he’s also waiting for an apology. Again, he’s not seeking financial damages from this company either, so both Apple and the reseller should consider themselves lucky this time.
