The Verge reports today that an iPhone user on Twitter has found a new, hidden security feature in Apple's upcoming iOS 11 mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

The feature, which is accessible if you quickly press the power button five times, is, in fact, a screen that gives you, or someone else if you have health problems, access to your Medical ID and Emergency SOS to call 911.

However, the interesting thing about this feature, once activated, it that it also disables the Touch ID (fingerprint) functionality of the device, so the person who tries to help you call 911 can't access any of the data on your phone or tablet.

The owner will have to input the passcode set when they bought the iPhone or iPad device to unlock the device, even if the said security features is activated by mistake. So make sure you don't press the power button more than five times continuously.

iOS 11 launches next month with numerous new features

Apple plans to launch the iOS 11 mobile operating system on supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices sometime next month during a public event where the Cupertino-based company will invite various media agencies around the US.

iOS 11 will introduce numerous new features, some of which have been revealed during the Beta/Public Beta programs that Apple offers for registered users. These include the revamp of many, if not all the icons of the default apps, and lots of UI tweaks.

A new Files app is available on iOS 11 as well as a file manager, along with various other enhancements that should make our lives easier when using an iOS device, but more will be revealed next month when iOS 11 launches as default operating system of the next iPhone.
