iOS 11, Apple's most advanced mobile operating system is now available worldwide for all supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, adding new life to old devices and a whole lot of new features and improvements.

Prominent new features of iOS 11 include a revamped control center, new multitasking features, a new Files file manager app, Apple Music integration, support for creating incredible augmented reality experiences, drag and drop support to move images, text or files on the iPad, as well as new SiriKit domains and camera APIs.

"iOS 11 sets a new standard for the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. Your apps can now become more intelligent using the power of machine learning with Core ML," said Apple. "You can create incredible augmented reality experiences with ARKit."

iPad users have new ways to get things done

iOS 11 also promises to make your iPad apps more powerful and personal than ever thanks to the new capabilities and features that Apple implemented in its mobile OS. With iOS 11, you'll do more work on your iPad devices than on your laptop or desktop computer.

On top of that, there's Core ML support that lets developers add intelligence and integrate machine learning models into their apps. You can also create custom depth filters with the new Depth Map API, and iOS 11 promises to let you control your smart speakers and home audio systems independently through the AirPlay 2 functionality.

Also new in iOS 11 is the Apple File System (APFS) and an all-new App Store that not only looks modern, but will help you (re)discover the apps you really need without wasting your time searching through millions of usless apps. iOS 11 is available worldwide starting today via the OTA update system on your supported devices (iPhone 5S or later).

Supported devices and how to install iOS 11

Some features that Apple promised us during the WWDC 2017 developer conference are missing from today's iOS 11.0 update, but they will be re-enabled soon in an upcoming point release. iOS 11 is available for iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro, as well as iPod touch 6th-generation.

To update your devices, if they're supported, you need to make sure you have a recent iTunes backup. You should also see if any of your favorite apps have been updated with support for iOS 11. After that, you can open the Setting app, go to General -> Software Update, and install the iOS 11.0 update. Please note that your device will reboot automatically a couple of times during the update process.

You can also download the iOS 11.0 IPSW images for iPhone and iPod, as well as iPad. Apple also released today the final builds of the macOS High Sierra 10.13, watchOS 4, and tvOS 11 operating systems. Click on each one if you want to learn about the new feature Apple implemented in these software updates for supported Macs, Apple Watch, and Apple TV devices. We recommend updating your devices to these new versions as soon as possible.
