The solid state drive continues to penetrate the market, as new technologies enable storage vendors to deliver better, more affordable solutions. On that note, ioSafe, a company that specializes in disaster proof hardware, has just announced a new addition to its line of Solo external hard drives, with the introduction of a the new SSD-based model. Designed to enable a boost of performance and deliver the same level of protection for the user's digital content, the new drive can be equipped with a 256GB-capacity Flash-based SSD.

According to the company, the Solo SSD, equipped with the proprietary ArmorPlate chassis, can resist a two story building collapse, up to a 1000g shock, while the HydroSafe, FloSafe and DataCast technologies can keep the drive cool during normal operation, as well as protecting the data fire hazards. In addition, the drive is designed to withstand water submersion of 30' for 30 days in fresh or salt water.

The ioSafe Solo SSD will be shipping in February 2010, with prices starting at US$499 for 64GB, US$749 for 128GB and US$1250 for 256GB, through the company's website.
