Microsoft will finally enable resuming updates

Microsoft is working on a new feature that would allow Windows 10 users to resume updates when turning on their computers, basically making interrupted updates a thing of the past.

Long-time Windows users certainly know how frustrating the whole thing is. With Windows updates getting larger in size, it’s becoming quite a painful experience to download and install them when not using a fast Internet connection. Or when running on battery power, that is.

Right now, if you’re in the process of getting a new Windows update but for some reason you can’t wait until it completes, closing the laptop or disconnecting the device from the Internet means that the same update needs to start from scratch whenever you restore full connection.

The same happens when you shut down the device. Windows shows an error in Windows Update, along with a retry button, and the whole process starts from the beginning, forcing you to wait forever once again.

No ETA just yet, so don’t hold your breath

But this is very likely to become a thing of the past very soon, as Microsoft is reportedly working on a new feature that would basically allow resuming of Windows 10 updates.

In other words, if any of the aforementioned scenarios apply, all you have to do when going back online or opening the laptop is to press resume and the update starts from where you left off. This means you won’t have to wait for an update to install, but do it whenever you have the time.

At this point, it’s not yet known when Microsoft plans to release this feature, as the company is still working on it, but the good news is that it should become available at some point in the near future.

It’ll be interesting to see if it’s finalized in time for the Redstone 4 update due in April for the production, but fingers crossed to get it as soon as possible.
