Short supply issues will plague Skylake launch as well

Typical of any new technology launch period, supply shortages are a common occurrence, but it seems in Skylake's case this will almost be an issue at launch.

Intel plans to launch its Core i5 and Core i7 “Skylake-S” CPUs with unlocked multiplier next week. Unfortunately, there won't be enough of them to satiate the mass of hungry CPU enthusiasts that will throw money towards their pre-order screens and nothing will happen for a while.

Apparently, rumors coming from Taiwan and Sweden at SweClockers believe that the first batches of Core i5-6600K and Core i7-6700K Skylake-S CPU series will only last for a few days and not the whole launch week, while the most powerful, probably the famous ASUS Z170 "Deluxe Socket," will be delayed even further after the CPU launch.

Although enthusiasts will cringe hearing such dire news, but this is quite common among new technology being launched. Supply issues plagued the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X for quite a while that also came together with lots of manufacturing issues that were solved in later units.

Usually, it's advised for at least a month or two to pass after the actual launch of brand-new technology, as all the manufacturing issues are silently sorted out, better and more polished products are hitting the stores and plenty of units are available anywhere.

In Skylake's case, logistics are a major issue since 14nm is quite new, and although it's been developed for about a year, a mass worldwide supply process is always difficult for new technology to satisfy all the involved retailers and hungry markets.
