Because they already had "cookies" (Do you get it?)

There's nothing weirder and more cryptic than developer jokes, but this one is really interesting. Following a tradition that goes back to 2006, the Chrome team sent the Microsoft Edge staff a cake.

This whole "cake sending" habit started when the Internet Explorer team sent one to the relatively new Firefox devs, congratulating them on shipping version 2.0 of their now famous browser.

Nobody knows if this was actually done out of spite, real kindness or just mockery, but as time went on, the IE and Firefox teams continued to send each other sugary goodies on a regular basis, mostly from Microsoft to Mozilla, since Firefox had a faster release cycle than IE.

Probably, that's why, as Firefox released more and more versions, the cakes got smaller and smaller, IE devs sending at one time just a tiny cupcake with the release of Firefox 6.

Mozilla (is now mad at Microsoft): No cake for you!!!

While Mozilla did its due diligence in the past and returned the favor whenever a new IE version was launched, this time around, with the release of Windows 10 and its new browser Edge, Mozilla had something else prepared, and it wasn't sweet at all.

As we reported a few days ago, Mozilla's CEO Chris Beard, released an open letter addressed to Microsoft's current boss, Satya Nadella, in which he blasted the company for making it harder for users to choose default browsers in Windows 10.

His rant was soon classified as ludicrous even by some Firefox users, who still remembered Mozilla forcing Pocket integration down their throats in a move much more despicable when compared to Microsoft bundling Edge as the default browser in Windows 10.

Enter Chrome devs to save the day dessert

But the Edge team wasn't left without their much-deserved cake. This time though, instead of the Firefox team, the cake was supplied by the Google Chrome team and looks pretty delicious from the photo posted on Twitter by some Edge devs.

This move comes to symbolize the current state of the browser market even more than you think.

While in the past IE and Firefox were battling for the top browser spots, nowadays, Chrome is dueling IE, and it currently sees Edge as the heir to the IE crown.

This new browser is not only going to take advantage of the huge Microsoft market share and spread lightning-fast amongst its userbase, but Edge is a much better browser when compared to Internet Explorer.

Blazing fast, even faster than Chrome, with a sleek look, and all the basic features, Edge can be the one that washes the mud off Microsoft's face and makes users remember that Microsoft once pushed and molded the Web into what it is now.
