The phone lets you view in 3D without 3D glasses

We have heard of phones with 3D displays here and there, but it seems consumers aren’t all that hyped about them. You might remember that Amazon released a 3D handset of its own called the Fire Phone, which proved to be a major flop. Even so, some device makers continue to produce this sort of products.

And the latest device in this category comes from Indian device maker InFocus, who has recently launched the M550-3D model, as reported by India Today.

The phone features a 5.5-inch stereoscopic 3D display that allows users to watch 3D content without 3D glasses.

The new InFocus features 1080p resolution and draws life from an octa-core MediaTek MT6852 processor clocked at 1.7GHz and fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB).

The new InFocus stands out in the camera department

On the imagining front, the phone takes advantage of a 13MP rear camera (Sony sensor) with LED flash, while up in front we have a 5MP snapper with 80-degree wide-angle lens plus another 5MP unit for 3D face tracking.

A negative aspect about the phone is that it runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box with the company’s own Inlife UI plastered on top. Given the fact that Android M is just around the corner, it’s pretty disappointing to see that some companies are still launching phones bundled with outdated operating systems such as this.

Surely, we shouldn’t be hoping to see the phone get an update, as this rarely happens in such cases, although the device has capable hardware that would surely be able to support Android 5.0 Lollipop or later.

Like most phones launching in India today, the handset is bundled with dual SIM capabilities. It also takes advantage of front-facing stereo speakers.

The spec list is completed by 4G/LTE/3G, 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG. The phone is supported by a 3,100 mAh battery.

Anyway, if all of the above sounds good to you, you should know that the InFocus M550-3D will start selling in September for approximately $250 / €225 a pop in India. No word on international availability so far.
