The device costs approximately $250 in the country

Microsoft has recently launched the new Lumia 650 phone with Windows 10 Mobile in India, but contrary to the company’s expectations, buyers there have been quite outraged by the price that it’s currently available at.

On Amazon, the Lumia 650 is sold for approximately $250 (€230), which, in most people’s opinion, is too high a price to pay for a device that has nothing but average hardware specifications and runs an operating system that’s still quite buggy.

As MSPU notes, most potential customers expressed their frustration at the high price on Amazon, posting negative comments and giving bad ratings to a device that’s otherwise aimed at businesses. At the time of writing this article, the Lumia 650 has a rating of 1.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon.

User comments

Although it’s clearly aimed at businesses, paying $250 for a Windows 10 Mobile device is considered to be unacceptable for many Indian buyers, mostly because the Lumia 650 comes with specs that are below the majority of Android phones available with the same price point.

“Considering the specs and the price, why would people even buy this? It would be a bad decision to buy this at what they are asking. Apart from the good looks there's nothing good about it. MS is clearly letting us down,” one user says in a comment on Amazon.

“Worst Lumia Ever, wrong product at wrong price, better grab three Redmi 2 Prime for this price and you will be happy,” another one added.

Lumia 650 specs

Lumia 650 has quite a premium look, with a metal frame and a design that sets it apart from the rest of Lumia phones currently on the market.

It comes with a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels, Snapdragon 212, 1 GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera. 16 GB of storage and a 2000 mAh battery are also offered.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime that the aforementioned user mentions comes with a 4.7-inch screen with the same resolution, but with a Snapdragon 410 processor and 2 GB of RAM. It also features 16 GB of storage space and an 8-megapixel camera, but instead comes a slightly larger battery with a 2200 mAh battery.

There are many other devices available at this price, so it’s clearly a matter of choice because, as we know, Windows Phone has one of the most loyal userbases in the world. But when taking into account the high price and the performance of Windows 10 Mobile, many fans seems to be willing to make the switch to Android.
