India is becoming a much more important market for tech companies across the world, and just as its fellow rivals do, Microsoft is looking to make the most of the increasing local appetite for new technology with more devices launched in the country.

Foxconn could soon start building Microsoft's Windows phones in India, and now it appears that Redmond could also bring its high-end tablets in the country.

Both the Surface 3 and the Surface Pro 3 could soon be available to Indian buyers, a Microsoft executive has suggested in an interview with Times of India, but no details on timing or pricing have been provided.

“We feel there's a market in India for all devices including high-end convertibles and the Surface is the perfect device to showcase Windows 10, which adapts to 2-in-1s easily with seamless switching between PC and tablet UIs,” said Vineet Durani, Director, Windows Business Group at Microsoft (India).

Latest Surface models to get Windows 10

Right now, both the Surface 3 and the Surface Pro 3 come with Windows 8.1, but when Windows 10 becomes available, Microsoft plans to release both models with the new operating system.

This means that you can purchase a Surface 3 or Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 pre-installed, but Microsoft hasn't yet provided information on the timing of this planned switch.

Needless to say, all current models that are running Windows 8.1 can also be updated to Windows 10 free of charge, and if you get the tablet in a Microsoft store on July 29, the local staff will update it to the new OS at no cost.

This is part of Redmond's campaign called Upgrade Your World, which is supposed to make everyone aware of the existence of the free Windows 10 upgrade, with the company calling for everyone to “upgrade their communities” and take advantage of this great offer.
