inSane is one of the long term projects for the developer Volition and publisher THQ but the main creator behind the project, well known movie director Guillermo del Toro, has offered some more information about the game.

Speaking to MTV Multiplayer the director of Pan's Labyrinth and cult favorite Hellboy has said, “We had to build a sandbox, so we designed all the architecture already.”

The development process is complicated and the director says that the results will only be ready for public consumption after a few years.

It seems that the designers at Volition are first creating the tools needed to put the universe together and only then will the game mechanics and the story be created.

He added, “I’m a huge gamer but going into constructing it, you have to be respectful of the medium. I’m learning a lot. Talking about the storyline for weeks. We’ve been designing the creatures, which are obscenely fun and unique. You haven’t seen them ever.”

He also described inSANE as being very entertaining, shocking but also engaging, with a lot of action and with a unique take on monsters, who are created by designer Guy David.

We already know that inSANE is built around a horror concept that has its roots in the Lovercraft universe.

Initially Del Toro was working with Universal Pictures to create a R rated horror version of the Lovecraft written At the Mountains of Madness, which was canceled because the studio feared it would not sell, and a lot of the ideas destined for that movie will probably be recreated in inSANE.

The director hopes to create a trilogy out of the inSANE concept and the first of the games is, at the moment, being prepared for a 2013 launch.

Del Toro is at the moment also working on The Hobbit, the J.R.R. Tolkien book that is being turned into two movies.
