Cole hits the silver screen

Video games and movies have had a pretty close relationship for quite some time. Whether it was game-based movies or movie-based games, the collaboration went well for all the companies involved, even though the fans were, most of the times, disappointed by the end result.

The most recent piece of news coming from Hollywood, after the announcement that Sam Raimi would direct the Warcraft movie, is that Sony Pictures will make a movie adaptation of the PlayStation 3 exclusive inFamous, which will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad and will have Sheldon Turner as a screenwriter.

It seems that the deal came from Turner, who suggested the idea of an inFamous movie to Sony Pictures, which is now working out the details in order to turn the adventures of Cole McGrath into a major blockbuster. Don't forget that the two Arads are already working on the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune big screen adaptation.

“What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I've come across that had a big idea and a character arc,” Turner said. “It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is.”

Actually, with the premise of an ordinary guy gaining super powers and Cole being as average as a game protagonist can be, inFamous won't be something extremely hard to adapt to the silver screen. It would be nice to see just how the karma system might be implemented in the movie.

Overall, inFamous was a pretty popular game, and hopefully its movie adaptation will be a good one and will make gamers and movie-goers happy.
