Rumors about Huawei's upcoming phablet packing a new touch display technology that will be included in the iPhone 6 have been popping up in the last couple of weeks.

Today, the Chinese company announced that its new Huawei Mate S high-end smartphone introduces the revolutionary Force Touch technology, which will be available in select markets.

Force Touch technology is capable of perceiving various levels of pressure on the screen, which will, in turn, allow users to complete different actions, including zooming in to a photo or launching an application, by simply applying increasing pressure on the display.

In addition, Force Touch technology allows users to take advantage of their screens as an approximate scale. However, Huawei states that these features are only the start and that new ones will be added in the future.

The specs

Moving on to Mate S' specs, Huawei's new high-end smartphone comes with a decent 5.5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features 2.5D Gorilla Glass.

Design-wise, Huawei Mate S features a curved back side, which is made of metal. Also, additional cutting-edge technology, including diamond cutting, CNC carving, nanotechnology and a sapphire lens are part of the phone's metal body.

The phablet ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and packs a powerful 64-bit octa-core HiSilion Kirin 935 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, which is complemented by a Mali-T628 MP4 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.

Huawei Mate S packs either 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, but thanks to the microSD card slot users will be able to further expand storage up to 128GB.

On the back, there's a 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, OIS (optical image stabilization) and video recording, which features a four-color RGBW imaging sensor.

There's also a no less impressive 8-megapixel camera in the front with soft, front lights meant to improve selfies. The Mate S also features a fingerprint sensor and special fingerprint sense technology that allows users to take a “natural selfie” by touching the sensor on the back of the phone.

Huawei Mate S offers both dual-SIM and 4G LTE support and is powered by a non-removable 2,700 mAh battery that should offer around two hours of talk time after just 10 minutes of charging.

Availability and pricing options

According to Huawei, the Mate S will be initially available in more than 30 countries, including China, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Spain, South Africa and UAE. The phablet will be available for pre-order in Western Europe beginning September 15.

Customers will have to come up with €650 for the Huawei Mate S 32GB (titanium grey or mystique champagne). The 64GB will cost €700 and comes in either prestige coral or coral pink.

Last but not least, the Force Touch version of Huawei Mate S will only be available in select markets, but more details on release and pricing options will be revealed next month.
