Maybe not a goodbye, more of a "see you soon"

When the trend finally seemed to change back toward PC development, one of the biggest game developers on this little planet, id Software has decided to ditch the PC as primary platform. The lead designer and co-owner of id Software, Tim Willits has stated this very clearly in an interview with IGN:

"We're so PC centric that it's actually been a little bit of a struggle wrapping our minds around a 360 to the point where I installed 360 controllers on everyone's PC. If I see them testing the new game with a keyboard and mouse I have to smack them on the back of the head... for us it's been a bit of a struggle to think about being a console developer because we've been PC focused for so long".

This statement comes quite soon after the presentation of their new engine called Id Tech 5, which is supposed to be present on all major platforms including Macintosh. I fail to remember (and I'm quite sure about it) whether id Software has ever made anything else but shooters. I don't want to be the negativist guy but I'm not too thrilled at the prospect of playing only half baked ports that only work with a gamepad and I haven't spent my entire life until now (kind of pathetic if you think about it) to improve my reflexes and aim with a keyboard and mouse just so I can start all over again with the help of console auto-aiming; you can deny it all you want, the proudest console owner would give anything for some device that would allow a similar control with the PC.

To top all this good information with a nice little cherry, it appears that NVidia support will be ditched too as not all consoles run on its hardware. Tim Willits' affirmation is nothing but smoke because we all know the truth: "So historically we pushed the PC video card technology to the limit", said Willits, "But because we're not doing that it's really more gameplay focused and the technology is about getting it to work on all of them."

This is it folks, the end of quality games from id Software is near, at least for the PC platform. I will definitely enjoy the moment when they switch back.
