14 DAY TRIAL // We're extremely sorry to inform our Linux readers that earlier today, December 30, 2015, the founder of the Debian Linux project, Mr. Ian Murdock, passed away.
We reported the other day that Mr. Ian Murdock threatened with suicide on his Twitter account, reporting police abuse. We have no in-depth details on the matter, except what we've already written in yesterday's article. His family has asked for privacy during this difficult time and we will totally respect that.
The announcement for his passing was made a few minutes ago by three members of the Debian Project, Ana Guerrero Lopez, Donald Norwood and Paul Tagliamonte, who wrote some very nice words about their leader, but not sharing any details about his death. It would also appear the Mr. Murdock's Twitter account was closed today.
"With a heavy heart Debian mourns the passing of Ian Murdock, stalwart proponent of Free Open Source Software, Father, Son, and the 'ian' in Debian. Ian's dream has lived on, the Debian community remains incredibly active, with thousands of developers working untold hours to bring the world a reliable and secure operating system," was stated in today's announcement.

Ian Murdock was the "ian" in Debian, the leader and founder of the one of the greatest operating systems based on the Linux kernel, as well as the biggest GNU/Linux community in the world. Mr. Murdock started the Debian Project almost 22 years ago, back in 1993, when he released the first ever version of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
