I updated QuickTime on my Windows PC, last week, and I was amazed to see that now it comes together with iTunes,
although I can't say I am crazy about such packages, especially when I use only one of the products bundled (I am talking about QuickTime) from time to time, but this is how Apple did it now, and I guess I'll live with it...
I must confess that I am not an "update freak" when talking about most of the applications I use, and - in some cases - there could pass entire months until I think "Oh! Did I update my text editor?" and get those updates downloaded and installed. Well, this time I found about the upcoming updates for iTunes and QuickTime, and I want to share the information with you, so you'll be able to update in time.
One of the main reasons to update QuickTime and iTunes is the Apple TV. This device will begin shipping next month, and these two programs will be updated to work with it the right way.
QuickTime's last version for Mac and Windows is 7.1.3 and was released on the 12th of September, 2006. As you may be already aware, this multimedia framework from Apple is capable of handling a wide range of digital video and audio formats, as well as images, text and several types of interactive panoramic images. According to sources from inside, Apple TV's Mac users will need a new version of QuickTime, labeled as 7.1.5, while Windows users will be fine with any version starting with 7.1.
The iTunes software created a lot of waves lately, so there's no need to tell you more about it, apart from the interesting fact that iTunes 7.1 seems to be due for release within the next 45 days, but we should wait and see if this proves to be true or false...
