14 DAY TRIAL // Normally priced at $2.99, iStat for iPhone, developed by Bjango, is now on sale going for $1.99. Version 1.1 requires an iPhone or iPod touch running 2.0 or higher firmware and removes the Free Memory function. Those planning on still using the feature are advised not to install newer versions of iStat for iPhone.
The mobile version of iStat allows users to remotely monitor CPU, memory, disks, uptime, load averages, and more, right from the device. With the app, one can also see their iPhone’s stats for memory, disk space, WiFi and Cell IP addresses, uptime & load averages, as well as view and email their iPhone’s Unique ID and MAC address.
The release notes for iStat 1.1, the most recent version of the app, list a “removed Free Memory function.” Bjango then links to an additional page, where it explains why it was forced to make this move.
“iStat’s Free Memory function was removed at Apple’s request,” Bjango reveals. “This decision was completely out of our hands. Please note that all other apps with Free Memory appear to have been removed or updated without their Free Memory function too,” the developer says.
“This was not taken lightly—we examined our choices, taking a lot of public feedback on board. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we do not plan to remove any other features from iStat,” the Bjango team assures its fans. “If you choose (and you haven’t already updated), you can continue to run iStat version 1.0. You’ll miss out on new features, but you’ll get to keep the Free Memory feature,” Bjango explains.
Additional 1.1 changes include:
- Added battery stats for iPhone/iPod touch. - Added processes list for iPhone/iPod touch. - Added the ability to sort the server list by name or auto. - Added the ability to disable Screen lock. - The email ID/Mac/both buttons now copy to the clipboard instead. - Updated icon. - Bug fixes.
