iStat Menus is one of the most popular monitoring tools for Mac OS X. Originally provided free of charge (when its makers called themselves iSlayer), iStat Menus is a useful application that helps Mac owners monitor their system right from the menubar, offering eight menu extras that let them further keep tabs on every aspect of the system. Bjango has now announced version 3.02 of the software, a recommended update for all users of iStat Menus.

iStat menus offers the ability to track the activity of key system components like the CPU, disks, battery, memory, and sensors, as well as various system activities like disk usage, network, and even simple things like date and time.

Version 3.02 delivers improved fan speed control, and adds easier-to-find Uninstall buttons in extras and preferences app when trial is over, as well as generic Eastern/Central/Mountain/Pacific cities for USA. The developers also found and addressed a number of bugs with the program.

For example, Bjango was able to fix a bug that could cause some of the extras to crash, as well as one with the network scaling slider showing incorrect value after relaunch. Some minor localization fixes have also been carried out. Finally, the release notes mention some bug fixes with clock format editors, and fixed bugs with the application’s installer (although these are not specifically described in the changelog).

iStat menus requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. As previously reported by Softpedia, starting with version 2.0, iStat Menus takes full advantage of frameworks only found in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, so it’s not supported on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. The single remaining Tiger-compatible version is iStat Menus 1.3. Luckily for users of Apple’s five-year-old operating system, it is free to use indefinitely. Following the link below, readers can choose to download their own supported version.
